Roulette Table and Roulette Chips
Roulette comes in two forms – American and European roulette, which are very similar, however there are still some differences including different features of roulette wheel and table layout. For better understanding of the roulette betting options and game rules let’s look at both American and European roulette tables.
Table Layout
Any variation of roulette game is played at specific table with a roulette wheel at one end (or in the middle). The table itself is covered with a green felt layout with boxes that stand for bets. Each number is either black or red, while the 0 and 00 (at American roulette) numbers are green. So, the numbers at roulette table are marked:
Roulette table can be divided into two parts for different types of bets. The part of the table with all the numbers (from 1 to 36 and additional zero pockets) in the grid stands for Inside bets.

You already know that American roulette table does not differ much from the European one, the main differences being in the 00 slot and the place for additional call or announced bets. There is a special betting area for call bets which looks like:
Call bets are also known as “French bets” as they came from original roulette game played in France. Today these bets are not present at all the casinos, both land and online. Still if you happen to meet roulette table with call bets first learn the rules as they can differ from casino to casino.
Mini-Roulette Table (Online)
Mini-roulette is one of the latest variations of online roulette games. It is played according to the rules of traditional European roulette, but it has a smaller table layout with a smaller range of betting options. The players can bet just on 12 numbers and get the payouts of even money and up to 11 to 1. As usual, the mini-roulette table has much lower betting limits than traditional roulette games.

As there may be approximately 8 players at the roulette table at the same time, the chips used in the game are not regular ones as the dealers would easily confuse them. Instead, each player gets special chips of his own color. Even friends and couples are required to be playing chips of different colors.
The dealer asks players to denominate a single chip in his/her stock. When the players say it is either $1, or $5 or else, the dealer places a chip of the particular color and another one of particular denomination near the wheel to control the payouts.
Roulette chips have no value outside the table, as the next player after you may play the same color but with another denomination. Therefore it is strongly advised to exchange the chips when you want to leave the table.
